Lazy Girl Rocker Cushion

When I found this sweet old wicker rocker last week, I immediately threw away the ugliest cushion ever. She looked better 'nekkid'.

She needed a "cushy" cushion to sink into and I lucked out when I found a thick feather pillow just the right size at the fabric store.

 I turned up the corners and secured them with a stitch to 'round' the edges a bit.

From the moment I found her, I'd known which fabric I'd pull from my stash. This beautiful old flour sack. I was surprised to find it still stitched together along the side; most of the ones I find have been taken apart to ready them to use for dish towels or quilt pieces. (The sacks were only stitched along one side to leave a generous piece of fabric for housewives to re-purpose. And you thought your generation had invented recycling...no girls, it's been going on for-evah!)  See how the corner on the stitched side (right), is rounded?  

I got my sewing machine out and stitched a matching curve along the other corner.

Wonder of wonders, my pillow form slid right in to the sack...a perfect fit!  I added a bit of fill to the corners and then folded the extra fabric over the back - (a bit like wrapping a gift). A couple of stitches secures it. 

What do you think?  She's very comfy now, and just perfect for a little lemonade-sipping-on-the-porch.

I'd keep her if I had the room. Instead, she's headed out to my space at the Waterloo Antiques Mall tomorrow.  Somewhere out there is the perfect porch, just waiting for her.

North Shore Flea Today! Sneak Peek

I'm going to make this quick peeps, cause the flea fairy did not show up overnight to load my vehicle. Now it's after 10:00 and I've got to hop to it!

Letterpalooza at The North Shore Flea

Old sign letters are f-u-n and they've been a sub-specialty of mine for years.

Tomorrow evening is the first North Shore Flea of the season in Highwood, Illinois.  To celebrate the opening, (and the perfect weather!), I'm taking more letters than I've ever taken to a single show.

The North Shore Flea is located in Highwood, Illinois.  It's an easy drive from Milwaukee, Chicago and all of the 'burbs. Drive in or take the train.  The flea runs from 4-9 p.m. and admission is free. (Click here for the North Shore Flea facebook page.)

Shopping Northwind

The Northwind Perennial Farm in Burlington Wisconsin hosted it's annual Antique Show last weekend.  I participated in the show a couple of years ago; it's a lovely location. I've since decided that it's really more fun to be free to be a shopper  - I had a blast there on Friday.

It was like going to a garden party and finding all my friends there.  Diane Passi is at a show every weekend.
Michelle and her son Dylan are our fun neighbors at The Elkhorn Antique Flea Market.

 Jeanine sets up at this show every year.  This year I nabbed a suitcase from her that matches the others in my collection - hooray!

Maryann was next to Jeanine on the beautiful shaded lawn.

Out in the field I grabbed a moment to chat with Margaret, (& Janice).

This duo was busy but I got them to stand still for just a moment!
There was so much great stuff to see throughout the entire show.

After browsing the vendors, I spent a little time among the perennials for sale and came home with some beauties...

...including the honeysuckle that I just planted by this beautiful trellis that Kathy gave me.
Isn't it wonderful?  Now I need to add some colorful annuals at the base to finish it off.

If you're ever in the Lake Geneva - Burlington area, pop in to the Northwinds Perennial Farm. Just be prepared to come home with a carload of perennials. They have so many wonderful varieties.

Viva la 'Viva La Cottage'!

One simply can't visit Door County without stopping at Viva La Cottage.  The outside only hints at the delights to be found within.

Owner Angie wasn't there the day we visited, but we caught Carol working hard, (and looking great, as always).

Every time we visit, there's something new to be discovered.  Isn't this chicken nester adorable?

Memorial Day In Sister Bay

Sister Bay is a small town in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin.  CG and I spent a relaxing weekend there and before heading home stopped at the local cemetery for the Memorial Day observation.

We don't have any connection to the area other than vacationing there, but wanted to take a moment to honor America's fallen heroes.

It was the perfect small-town celebration.

The American Legion and VFW units were comprised largely of aging vets.

This gent attended in a wheelchair...

...but stood with assistance to salute when the Navy anthem was played.  Our veterans truly understand the price and value of freedom.

This soldier represented the current generation sacrificing for our nation's freedom.  The crowd responded with a standing ovation.

For sixty-five years this man has played taps here.

...yes sixty-five years..

(he must have started at a very young age!)

 Thanks to those who put together the ceremony at the Sister Bay cemetery; it was a most fitting way to pause and remember the reason for the holiday.
